Deke has been a registered therapy dog and emotional support animal since 2012.  He and his owner, Pam Hurley, work together at EDCare to provide Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) to adults with eating disorders. Deke helps create an environment of emotional connectedness, playfulness, calmness, and motivation for patients, families and the staff. In December 2017, the American Kennel Club awarded Deke the title of Distinguished Therapy Dog and gold medal award for completing more than 400 patient visits.

Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer

Favorite Toy: Tennis ball, tug-of-war rope, stuffed duck

Favorite Activity: Running off leash in a field, splashing through a river, retrieving sticks while swimming in a lake, chasing field mice/squirrels and going to EDCare Denver every day with Pam to see patients

Favorite Treat: ZUKE’S treats (all kinds), regular milk bones, roasted chicken, string cheese

Greatest Accomplishment: Becoming a registered therapy dog with Pet Partners and helping patients feel better
