Please join the Denver Metro iaedp Chapter for lunch and an engaging presentation and discussion by Tamara Pryor, Ph.D. on Let’s Stop Whack-a-Mole: The Need for Integrated Treatment for Substance Abuse and Eating Disorders.
There is a high prevalence of substance use disorder (SUD) in patients with eating disorders. However, there is a paucity of integrated treatment models for this comorbid group. As a result, patients receive fragmented care, and frequently relapse as they vacillate between these disorders. This presentation will review the need for, and components of, an integrated treatment approach. We will discuss the clinical characteristics of individuals with ED/SUD, and evidenced-based models for treatment.
It is an honor to have Dr. Pryor present on this topic.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to describe the principle and guidelines for integrated treatment for patients with ED and SUD.
2. Participants will be able to describe several adaptive functions of substance use in eating disorder patients.
3. Participants will learn what we have discovered about the ED/SUD patient that impedes successful treatment from both disorders.
4. Participants will be able to identify barriers to providing fully integrated treatment for ED/SUD patients.
*1 CE available (To receive CE credit, please be prepared to provide your license number at sign-in on the day of the event.)
