Recovery from an eating disorder can be a life-long focus. Patients who have completed one of our more intensive treatments usually attend our outpatient treatment program. Whether a patient has been treated at EDCare in the past, or simply needs support to continue on a personal recovery path, help is available through our Outpatient and Aftercare services.

EDCare strengthens the patient’s experiences with other treatment providers with ongoing and personal connections with our primary therapists, dietitians and board-certified psychiatrists, including:

  • Individual, family and couples therapy
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Group therapy (aftercare, DBT, body image and family groups)
  • A free support group sponsored by ANAD (National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders)
  • Psychiatric evaluation and medication management
  • Nutritional counseling

Support Groups

There are substantial benefits in connecting with others and getting support via a shared experience. EDCare support groups offer a supportive environment where patients can process their self-treatment. Outpatient Support Group Schedule

Every Saturday from 1:30 – 2:30 pm

This is not a skills or process group; it is a peer-led support group that provides a space to build a community of individuals who understand the struggles related to managing eating disorder thoughts and symptoms in daily life.

Requirements:

None, this group is FREE and open to the public!

Every Monday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy blends cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and relational frame theory. In other words, ACT looks at how the human brain works in producing our thoughts. When we understand the basic functions and processes of our brain we can begin to understand our reactions. In this group, individuals work to increase awareness of their thoughts, develop more adaptive and creative responses to problems, and reconnect to their values.

Requirements:

  • Must provide proof you are currently seeing an Outpatient Therapist
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Pre-screenings required
  • Cost is $30.00 per group (covered by some insurance plans – individuals are responsible for submitting billing slip to their insurance for reimbursement)

Every Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Our Binge Eating Disorder support group offers a safe, nonjudgment environment for those clinically diagnosed with BED to find help and support. It is designed to empower individuals in recovery through education, coping strategies and creating a support system through a sense of community.

Requirements:

  • Must provide proof you are currently seeing an Outpatient Therapist
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Pre-screenings required
  • Cost is $30.00 per group (covered by some insurance plans – individuals are responsible for submitting billing slip to their insurance for reimbursement)

Every Thursday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is effective at helping individuals manage overwhelming emotions. Research shows DBT strengthens a person’s ability to handle distress without losing control or acting destructively. Through DBT, individuals will learn four critically important skills that can both reduce the size of emotional waves and help keep balance when emotions become overwhelming.

This is not a skills or process group; it is a peer-led support group that provides a space to build a community of individuals who understand the struggles related to managing eating disorder thoughts and symptoms in daily life.

Requirements:

Every Monday 6:30 – 7:45 pm

Allows patients to learn specifically how their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors are interlinked, and how to interrupt eating disorder symptoms. Topics include over-evaluation of weight, shape, and size on self-esteem; eating disorder rules; tracking symptoms; challenging distorted eating disorder thoughts, and more.

Requirements:

  • Must provide proof you are currently seeing an Outpatient Therapist
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Pre-screenings required
  • Cost is $30.00 per group (covered by some insurance plans – individuals are responsible for submitting billing slip to their insurance for reimbursement)

Every Tuesday 6:30 – 7:45 pm

The Registered Dietician leading this group provides education on different topics specific to eating disorders and meal plan compliance. Patients must have an individualized prescribed meal plan from a dietician specializing in eating disorders prior to joining the group. Topics include debunking dieting, macro and micronutrients, meal support, planning and more.

Requirements:

  • Must provide proof you are currently seeing an Outpatient Therapist
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Pre-screenings required
  • Cost is $30.00 per group (covered by some insurance plans – individuals are responsible for submitting billing slip to their insurance for reimbursement)

Every Wednesday 6:30 – 7:45 pm

A licensed Art Therapist leads the group by beginning with a prompt that encourages self-expression to challenge any perfectionistic thoughts or self-criticism, and instead embrace flexibility and tolerating hard emotions by experiencing them without judgment.

Requirements:

  • Must provide proof you are currently seeing an Outpatient Therapist
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Pre-screenings required
  • Cost is $30.00 per group (covered by some insurance plans – individuals are responsible for submitting billing slip to their insurance for reimbursement)

Every Thursday 6:30 – 7:45 pm

This group runs through 4 different DBT modules: Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Each week’s module provides skills and homework to help implement the teachings into daily life.

  • Must be 18 or older
