Description:

Eating Disorders are the second leading cause of death among psychiatric illnesses. If left untreated, clinical symptoms can have life-long medical, psychological, and sociological effects. In order to establish the trajectory of recovery, assessment, appropriate recommendations and subsequent treatment are imperative. This presentation will focus on identifying symptoms and complications associated with all types of eating disorders, assessments, and the standards associated with various levels of care. Attendees will receive education and recommendations of scope of practice in addition to resources for referring patients to a Higher Level of Care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn the various clinical presentations of eating disorders.
  2. Participants will gain a better understanding of various warning signs and complications associated with eating disorders and the many psychiatric co-morbidities.
  3. Participants will learn different assessment approaches associated with eating disorder symptomatology.
  4. Participants will receive information to examine their own scope of practice in order to better place patients in the appropriate level of care, ultimately resulting in helping patients secure a recovery-focused life.
