Welcome to PART 1 of EDCare’s Cutting EDGE Virtual Learning Series – A Continuing Education Series for Mental Health Professionals Working with Athletes 

The Athlete EDGE® program at EDCare has dedicated itself to treating athletes and eating disorders by recruiting experts in the field who truly understand the complex nature of eating disorders and the world of sports. In this four-part series, you will hear from the Athlete EDGE® treatment team including EDCare’s Program Advisor, Primary Therapist, Sports Dietitian, Mental Performance Coach, Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Sports Psychiatrist. Together, this multidisciplinary team will explore topics related to supporting athletes who are navigating eating disorder recovery.

PART 1: Eating Disorder Awareness Among Athletes: Understanding the Unique Risk Factors of Eating Disorders in Sports

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  1. Define at least three unique risk factors specific to the development of eating disorders in the athlete population.
  2. Understand distinguishing characteristics between wholesome exercise and exercise pathology.
  3. Develop strategies for addressing the physiological, psychological, and performance detriments caused by relative energy deficiency in sport (REDs) within a multidisciplinary team.

CONTINUING EDUCATION DETAILS:

CEs will be available for psychologists and mental health providers. A Certificate of Attendance for one (1) clock hour will be issued to all qualified participants who attend this virtual event. Full attendance is required to receive CE credits. No partial credit will be awarded. CE credit is NOT available for watching any recordings, full attendance of the virtual session must be attended LIVE to earn credit. Participants are responsible for contacting their respective state and discipline licensing boards to confirm acceptance of CE credits.

EDCare has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No.7113. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. EDCare is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

EDCare is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. EDCare maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
