At this stage, our team will analyze your current symptoms, review any prior treatment history, zero in on any co-occurring symptoms or disorders, and note any other factors that need to be addressed during your time with us.

Receiving personalized care, attention, and treatment from qualified eating disorder specialists is critical to achieving long-term recovery from binge eating disorder. EDCare’s dedication goes beyond helping you identify the right level of care; but we also provide assistance in navigating the costs associated with binge eating disorder treatment. EDCare has established a network of more than 35 different insurance providers, which include Colorado Medicaid and Colorado TRICARE®. We also accommodate out-of-network insurance providers and negotiate single-case agreements. You may also ask us for help arranging individual payment plans. Our team’s goal is to help patients remain focused on recovery, so they can live healthy lives.

Throughout your treatment, you will be working in close collaboration with compassionate binge eating disorder professionals who have experience catering to individuals with similar experiences as yours. You will have access to various therapeutic interventions from individual and group therapies to family and experiential therapy sessions. Most importantly, you can expect to be in a supportive and healing environment throughout your time at EDCare. We treat each other and the patients under our care with utmost respect and dignity.

The path to binge eating disorder recovery is unique for every patient. Recovery depends on many factors.

Your treatment may be shorter, depending on your progress. However, it may also be longer to make sure you’re well-prepared for your transition into your daily life at home.

You, together with your treatment team, will determine your next steps to reaching your recovery goals as you progress through our program. Usually, PHP patients transition into our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and receive ongoing clinical support as they continue to practice recovery skills without supervision.

To reduce the risk of a relapse, your treatment team takes time to come up with a thorough discharge plan. We begin formulating the plan in your first few weeks with us and continuously update and adjust it throughout the treatment process.

After completing our programs, you will transition back into the care of your outpatient team. If you don’t have an outpatient team, we’ll help you identify local resources that can help maintain long-term recovery.

What is Binge Eating Disorder?

Binge eating disorder is characterized by episodes of consuming excessive amounts of food in a short time. During binge eating episodes, individuals may feel as if have lost control of their behavior – they may eat much faster than normal, and may continue to consume food even after they are past the point of feeling full.

Following a binge eating episode, the person may be left with feelings of shame, guilt, and even disgust. The behaviors and resulting negative emotions associated with binge eating disorder, often cause people to isolate themselves from friends and family, consequently leaving themselves without support at a time when they need it the most.

If you or someone you love has been struggling with binge eating disorder, help is available.

Recovery is possible with the right binge eating disorder treatment program, EDCare offers a comprehensive program designed to help those who have binge eating disorder see significant improvements in both their physical and mental health, and consequently, their quality of life.

A person’s weight does not determine whether they have binge eating disorder. In fact, people with binge eating disorder are likely to be of normal weight.

Often, there are no obvious physical signs or symptoms that point to binge eating disorder. A person who has binge eating disorder, however, may exhibit certain behavioral and emotional signs and symptoms that may include:

  • Hoarding food
  • Eating large amounts of food
  • Eating even when full
  • Eating rapidly
  • Frequent dieting without losing weight

Binge eating disorder is also characterized by its emotional symptoms:

  • Lack of control once the person begins to eat
  • Disgust or self-hatred over their eating behaviors
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Grief
  • Shame

Often, the person may try to eat normal meals or go on a diet after a binge eating episode. But unlike those with bulimia who habitually purge after binges, a binge eater who attempts to restrict their intake of food may end up engaging in even more binge eating episodes, creating a vicious cycle.

Binge Eating behaviors often happen in secret. Those who live with the condition don’t usually engage in binge eating in front of family and friends because they’re embarrassed or because they’re aware that these behaviors are somehow unusual and may have adverse effects on their health.

If you suspect that you or someone you love has a binge eating disorder, here are some of the visible warning signs to look for:

  • Repeated offers to take out the trash to keep others from seeing the empty food wrappers and containers
  • Refusal to eat in public
  • Eating alone in unusual places like in the garage, the bathroom, the car or the yard

Binge eating can take its toll on an individual’s physical and mental health. When it becomes a regular occurrence, the individual may be left with feelings of shame. Those who engage in binge eating may also lose confidence in their ability to control the amount of food they consume, and this lack of control may spill over to other aspects of life and have ramifications on the person’s school, career, and relationships.

Binge eating disorder is also linked to the following health problems:

  • Sleep Apnea
  • Arthritis
  • Heart Disease
  • High Cholesterol
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Type 2 Diabetes

These health conditions may, in some cases, lead to an early death.
