Eating disorder treatment for adults: Take back your power

EDCare offers evidence-based treatment for adults with eating disorders. Get a free, confidential assessment to find the right level of care – PHP, IOP, or outpatient.

When to seek eating disorder treatment

Adults should consider professional care when eating behaviors or weight concerns interfere with health, work, relationships, or daily functioning. Clinical triggers include persistent restriction, bingeing, purging, compulsive exercise, rapid weight change, or physical symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, abnormal labs, or dental problems.

  • Persistent restrictive eating, bingeing, or purging
  • Medical signs (abnormal electrolytes, fainting, cardiac symptoms)
  • Impaired functioning at work, school, or home
  • Use of extreme weight-control methods

95% of our patients say we meet or exceed expectations.

Admissions Process.

The first step on your journey to recovery is contacting EDCare to schedule a free, confidential assessment for our program and ask any immediate questions you may have regarding treatment. Assessments generally take about one hour and can be done in person or over the phone if distance is an issue. During the assessment, you and one of our compassionate Admissions Counselors will discuss your medical history, previous treatment, if any, and get to know you and your individual circumstances. This comprehensive assessment process not only helps us guide you to the most appropriate treatment option but, also allows us to put together a treatment team tailored to your individual needs.

What a thorough eating disorder assessment includes

Medical evaluation

Vitals, weight history, basic labs (electrolytes, kidney and liver), and ECG or bone density when indicated.

Psychological evaluation

Clinical interview, validated symptom measures (for example EDE-Q or EDI-3), mood and trauma screen, suicidality risk assessment, and substance use review.

Functional and social review

Impact on work, caregiving, relationships, and practical supports used to plan a realistic treatment approach.

Levels of care: PHP vs IOP vs outpatient

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

Full-day programming (often 5–7 days/week) with supervised meals, medical monitoring, group and individual therapy, and dietitian support. Best for adults with significant symptoms who do not need 24/7 hospital care.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

Part-day programming several times per week for adults who need structured treatment while maintaining some home or work responsibilities.

Outpatient & aftercare

Weekly therapy, medication management as needed, and step-down planning after higher-intensity care.

What To Bring To Program

Evidence-based treatments and outcomes

EDCare follows evidence-based approaches including CBT-E and other validated therapies. Medication (for example fluoxetine for bulimia nervosa, lisdexamfetamine for binge-eating disorder) may be used as part of a comprehensive plan when indicated.

Higher-intensity programs often show meaningful symptom reduction; many patients achieve partial or full remission and improved quality of life with the right level of care.

What to expect during admissions and the first 48 hours

After a free confidential assessment, Admissions will explain the recommended level of care and logistics. Typical first-48-hour steps in a PHP include paperwork, medical evaluation, meal planning, and an initial team meeting to set goals.

Common patient concerns and how we address them

Fear of stigma or not being “sick enough”

We assess behavior, distress, and medical risk – not just weight. Adults of any size can have clinically significant eating disorders and deserve evidence-based care.

Practical barriers: cost, work, caregiving

We work with insurance, single case agreements, and sliding-scale housing options to reduce logistical and financial barriers.

Autonomy and shared decision making

Treatment decisions are collaborative; we explain risks, benefits, and alternatives so you retain control over care choices whenever possible.
